JP Morgan to pay millions in “American Century” lawsuit

March 23, 2012 By admin

There have been bigger damage suit awards in Missouri history, but the one between The Kansas City-based American Century Insurance has the biggest “collectable” award. An arbitrator has ruled J.P. Morgan Chase and Company owes American Century $384-million . J. P. Morgan Chase had bought a minority interest in American Century for $848 million dollars in 1998, then bought controlling interest in 2003.  Part of the deal was that J.P. Morgan Chase would promote and sell American Century financial products as well as its own products.  But the arbitrator says J. P. Morgan Chase began promoting its own retirement funds to the detriment of American Century less than a month after the deal.
