House collapses in Homestown, killing one, injuring toddler

March 19, 2012 By Jessica Machetta

A house has collapsed in the southeast Missouri community of Homestown, killing a man who was tearing it down. The man’s 3-year-old son has undergone surgery for an elbow injury.

Authorities say Calvin Whitaker, his pregnant wife, and their 11 children were in the house when it started to fall in. He warned them to get out but was struck on the chest by a falling beam and killed.
