Blues blanked in Carolina

March 16, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Cam Ward made 40 saves for his 200th career win and the Carolina Hurricanes shut out the St. Louis Blues 2-0 Thursday night in Raleigh-Durham. Blues forward Andy McDonald left the game with what appeared to be a shoulder injury.

Despite spending much of the season near the bottom of the Eastern Conference, the swept four games from the Boston Bruins, Carolina has a pair of shutout wins against Washington and one each against Chicago and now St. Louis, showing they can compete with top teams.

McDonald, who missed 51 games due to concussion symptoms, had nine goals and eight assists for 17 points in 17 games. McDonald rammed into the boards and had to be helped off the ice.
