Blues collapse in third period, lose at Chicago

February 19, 2012 By Bill Pollock

The St. Louis Blues lost for the just the second time this season after leading after two periods. The Blackhawks tallied three goals in the last 20 minutes to beat the Blues in Chicago by a 3-1 final. After losing nine straight, the Hawks have now won three in a row, thanks to a little bit of luck.

With the scored tied 1-1, Hawks center David Bolland, threw a pass in front of the Blues net, that captain David Backes tipped in with his stick to give Chicago a 2-1 lead with just under seven minutes to play. Marion Hossa added an empty goal with :50 left.

The Hawks tied the game earlier in the third on a goal by Duncan Keith, that ended Brian Elliott’s bid for a seventh shutout. The Blues led 1-0 after getting a late first period goal from Andy McDonald. McDonald skated into the crease and swatted a loose puck past Chicago’s Corey Crawford. It was McDonald’s third goal in three straight games. McDonald just returned after missing 51 games from a concussion. This was his fifth game back since an injury on October 13th against Dallas.
