Learn more about Chiefs new OC Daboll

February 7, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Brian Daboll was announced as the Chiefs new offensive coordinator on Monday. He worked with GM Scott Pioli and head coach Romeo Crennel in New England, which is where the two got to know Daboll. This season, Daboll was Miami’s offensive coordinator and helped that team achieve a milestone never reached by that franchise.

When you think of impressive offensive numbers, Miami doesn’t jump right out, but under Daboll, the Dolphins offense had both a 1,000-yard rusher and a 1,000-yard receiver for the first time in franchise history. Reggie Bush ran for 1,086 yards on 216 carries and Brandon Marshall caught 81 passes for 1,214 yards. Miami’s QB Matt Moore finished fifth in the AFC and 12th in the NFL with an 87.1 passer rating. Under Daboll, the Miami offense committed only 39 penalties in 2011, tying for the third best mark in the NFL.

Before Miami, Daboll called plays in Cleveland for two years and prior to that stint, Daboll spent two seasons (2007-08) as quarterbacks coach with the N.Y. Jets. He helped QB Brett Favre pick up the Jets offense after the quarterback came out of retirement, a season in which Favre was a Pro Bowler and ranked fifth in the NFL in completion percentage (65.7).
