A competitor to the company is proposing the Keystone XL pipeline is proposing an alternative pipeline. Enbridge Incorporated, based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, proposes a pipeline that would run across Missouri. The pipe would carry tar sands from Canada. It already has a line across Missouri from northeast to southwest. Enbridge suggests the new pipeline run adjacent to the present line, linking its system in Chicago with a line that already exists from Cushing, Okla., to Port Arthur, Texas.

It would cross the Mississippi River north of Hannibal and would be built southwest through Bates county.

Enbridge says the two lines together could move about 700,000 barrels a day.
