The state senate is moving to keep the state from implementing part of the Affordable Health Care Act. The bill that is one vote away from passage forbids Gov. Nixon from issuing any executive orders creating a state insurance exchange. That’s part of the federal law that will let consumers do online shopping for health insurance.
The federal government says the states have to set up their own plan by 20-14 or a federally-created program will be ut in place.
The bill says the legislature or the voters would have to approve the state exchange before it could be established.
The bill still has to clear the House before it can go on the November ballot.
