Rams head coach Jeff Fisher added three key pieces to his coaching staff, announcing Brian Schotteheimer as his offensive coordinator and Gregg Williams as his defensive coordinator, a native of Excelsior Springs, on Monday. Fisher will also add Independence, Missouri native David McGinnis as his assistant head coach. McGinnis worked seven seasons with Fisher at Tennessee. McGinnis was also a one time assistant as Missouri for three seasons.

Williams comes to St. Louis from New Orleans, where he spent the past three seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Saints. The Saints won Super Bowl XLIV against the Colts.

Williams was Fisher’s defensive coordinator in Tennessee for six seasons before he moved on to New Orleans.

Schottenheimer’s offense, when run focused were key in the Jets’ back to back appearances in the AFC Championship game in 2009 and 2010. The 2009 team led the NFL in rushing with an average of 172.3 yards per contest. That could bode well for veteran running back Steven Jackson.

This season, Schottenheimer added more of a passing attack and Jets stumbled with Mark Sanchez and finished the season 8-8. Before becoming the OC at New York, Schottenheimer served four seasons as the quarterbacks coach for San Diego where he worked with Drew Brees and Philip Rivers.

Brian is the son of long time NFL head coach Marty, Schottenheimer and worked for his father in Washington and Kansas City. Brian was also on Dick Vermeil’s staff in 1997 with the Rams.
