Mules’ wrestling falls to Division-I SIU-Edwardsville

University of Central Missouri Mules Wrestling had a tough night on the mats in Edwardsville, Illinois Thursday night, falling to the Division-I Cougars 33-12.  The Mules lone winners were Ty Balty (Rogersville, Mo.) at 125 pounds and Eric Mateo (St. Robert, Mo.) at 133 pounds, both winning by forfeit. Complete results are listed below.

The Mules return to the mats this Sunday, hosting the annual Roger Denker Open at the UCM Multipurpose Building in Warrensburg. More than 150 wrestlers are expected to compete Sunday, including athletes from Division I schools Missouri, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. 

Match Summary: SIU-Edwardsville – 33, Central Missouri – 12

285 Cole Rogers (Southern Illinois Edwardsville) won by forfeit.

125 Ty Balty (Central Missouri) won by forfeit.

133 Eric Mateo (Central Missouri) won by forfeit.

141 Brendan Murphy (Southern Illinois Edwardsville) won by decision over Nick Viterisi (Central Missouri) 6-2.

149 Dillon Pousson (Southern Illinois Edwardsville) won by pin over David Nicolaescu (Central Missouri) 2:27.

157 Steven Ross (Southern Illinois Edwardsville) won by decision over Russell Naylor (Central Missouri) 13-6.

165 Alex Davis (Southern Illinois Edwardsville) won by forfeit.

174 Gabe Hocum (Southern Illinois Edwardsville) won by decision over William Ressel (Central Missouri) 3-2.

184 Deshoun White (Southern Illinois Edwardsville) won by decision over Travis Miller (Central Missouri) 7-1.

197 Cole Brandt (Southern Illinois Edwardsville) won by decision over Derick Sanders (Central Missouri) 6-1.
