Crennel will continue to call defensive plays for the Chiefs

January 13, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel told the NFL Network he will continue to call defensive plays next year and he will retain his defensive coaches. Crennel said the team continued to have success and there were no issues with him calling the defensive plays in the last three games after he took over for Todd Haley.

Crennel said they will look outside the organization for an offensive coordinator meaning Bill Muir is out and they will not promote quarterback coach Jim Zorn. Crennel sounds like he’s in favor of Matt Cassel being the starting quarterback. He said he looks forward to Cassel “getting them back to the playoffs.” An indication the team will not try to sign unrestricted free agent Kyle Orton.
