NTSB rules on fatal Highway Patrol Helicopter crash

January 12, 2012 By admin

The National Transportation Safety Board says a Highway Patrol helicopter that crashed in October, 2010 had almost no fuel. The trooper piloting the chopper was killed when it came down in a St. Louis County subdivision. The report says investigators found only three quarts of fuel in the helicopter’s tank and only two drops in the line to the fuel pump. The NTSB is not saying lack of fuel caused the crash, though.  That determination will be announced later.

Patrol Sgt. Joe Schuengel was the only person in the helicopter
