Murder rate drops in St. Louis

January 6, 2012 By Jessica Machetta

St. Louis has recorded its lowest homicide number since 2004. Last year’s final tally is 114, down twenty percent from the 144 in 2010. Police Chief Dan Isom tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch much of the credit goes to the city’s court system which has decided to set high bails in gun crimes, ensuring that those accused spend less time on the streets.
