Matt D’Agostini’s goal midway through the final period capped a three-goal rally by the Blues who come back from a two-goal deficit to beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 on Thursday night at Scottrade Center.
Chris Stewart scored the Blues lone goal in the first period, his ninth of the year, to help St. Louis jump out to a 1-0 lead. The Blues dominated the period out shooting Edmonton 15-3.
The Oilers responded in the second period by scoring two goals just 15 seconds apart. Edmonton scored twice on the power play in that second frame as well, getting goals from Taylor Hall, Ben Eager and Jordan Eberle.
The Blues needed less than two minutes of the third period to overcome the 3-1 deficit. Alex Pietrangelo scored on a one-timer from the left point 20 seconds into the period and captain David Backes tipped in another one from Pietrangelo at 1:48 to tie the game at 3-3.
D’Agostini’s provided the winner on a slap shot through a screen past Edmonton goal DevanDubnyk that clanked off the right post and in at 8:59.
St. Louis got a goal and an assist each from Pietrangelo and Backes and Carlo Colaiacovo picked up three assists to match a career-high in points. Jaroslav Halak stopped 29 shots for the Blues, who have the most home wins in the NHL with 16. They are now 16-3-2 on home ice. The Blues improved to 3-8-1 when trailing after two periods, also one of the League’s top marks.
