Springfield councilman resigns following arrest

January 5, 2012 By Jessica Machetta

Troubled Springfield city councilman Nick Ibarra has resigned, saying he needs to focus on his marital and personal problems.

Ibarra is accused of threatening his wife with a loaded handgun during an argument last weekend. He and his wife are separated. She has asked for a judge to order Ibarra to stay away from her and their two children.

The Highway Patrol also is investigating a reported “road rage” incident involving Ibarra.
