Mike Silver, writer for Yahoo sports, says his sources tell him that Jeff Fisher came away very impressed after his meeting with Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, for that team’s head coaching position. His interview included a private helicopter ride over the Dolphins’ practice facility. Miami and the Rams appear the front runners for the services of Fisher. The Rams have the next chance to wine and dine Fisher while he’s in St. Louis the next couple of days.
According to Silver, Fisher spent much of this season watching NFL game tapes, was highly impressed by the talent on the Dolphins’ roster. A possible strike against the Rams could be that Fisher is not a full believer in Sam Bradford as a franchise quarterback.
Also involved in this interview process in Miami was former Chiefs president Carl Peterson who may become Miami’s permanent team president soon along with GM Jeff Ireland (who was an 11 year old ball boy with the Chicago Bears, when Fisher was a player.)
Now it’s Stan Kroenke’s turn and he can be just as influential as the best of them when it comes to getting what he wants. There is no doubt, he wants Fisher. That was the first name to come up when reports started trickling out that Steve Spagnuolo would be fired. Kroenke and the Rams may also have a backup plan with ties to the Dolphins. There is reported interest in Miami’s interim head coach Todd Bowles, though the Rams have yet to ask Miami for permission.
The Rams are also looking for a General Manager and received permission to speak with Les Snead, Director of Player Personnel of Atlanta and Eric DeCosta of Baltimore…the Ravens Director of Player Personnel.
