A Canadian industrial corporation and an Overland construction company have bought the Pea Ridge iron mine in eastern Missouri’s Washington County for $13 million dollars. The mine once was one of the deepest underground iron ore mines in the world before it closed in 2001. Owners since then have used it as a source of rare-earth minerals used in batteries, weapons, and flat screen televisions. But MFC Industrial Limited and Alberici Construction Company appear more interested in cranking up the iron mining operation again. It’s thought the mine has about 150 million metric tons of high-grade iron ore.
