Mid-Mo mother avoids death penalty for murder of infant son

January 4, 2012 By Jessica Machetta

A judge says a woman charged with murdering her 6-month-old son in Miller County is ineligible for the death penalty because she is “mentally retarded.” The county prosecutor has charged Christina White with setting fire to a blanket that was covering her son in 2007.

The prosecutor had announced plans to pursue the death penalty in the case but says he will follow the judge’s decision. Her trial will be held in Laclede County but no date has been set.
