Deer hunters using muzzle loaders have come close to the record in their part of the deer-hunting season. The conservation department says they’ve killed more than 15,200 deer, only about 700 fewer than the record set in 2009. This year’s take is 18 percent more than the 2010 total.
The department has sponsored a muzzle-loader season since 1988.
