Even though Missouri doesn’t officially join the SEC until July 1, 2012, the news Mizzou football got on Wednesday should serve as their first official win over an SEC opponent.

Back in June, the Tigers got a verbal commitment from Lee’s Summit West offensive guard Evan Boehm who is the 4th ranked offensive guard in the national class of 2012. Then in November, the 6-3 290 pound Boehm wavered a bit and took a visit to Auburn. However, after another visit a couple of weeks to Mizzou, Boehm says for sure he’s coming to Mizzou next season.

This announcement is big for a couple of different reasons. The first being the Tigers obviously get one of the top lineman in this class, but it also sends a statement that Missouri will not lose in-state recruits to other SEC schools.

Boehm told the Kansas City Star he just wanted to make sure he was making the right choice and while he enjoyed his time in Auburn, he knows coming to Missouri will be the right move. That says a lot about the program and where it’s at in the early stages of ramping up it’s effort against the power houses of the SEC.
