Blues goalie Elliot loses in first game against former team

December 22, 2011 By Bill Pollock

Brian Elliott made 19 saves and David Backes and Chris Stewart scored for the Blues, but it was former Blues player Jay McClement’s second period goal that led to a 3-2 Blues loss…just the second in the last 13 games.

After giving up two goals in the first 5:19 of the game, the Blues got goals from David Backes and Chris Stewart to tie the game before the unlucky bounce put Colorado back on top in the second period.

McClement’s backhand was blocked by defenseman Alex Pietrangelo but the puck went over the line as Pietrangelo and forward Matt D’Agostini slid into Elliott just before they knocked the net off its moorings with 5:53 left in the period. After a lengthy review, the goal stood.
