Report: clerks doing judge’s job during her vacation

December 19, 2011 By Mike Lear

A report in St. Louis says clerks for an associate circuit judge handled at least 350 cases while she was on a vacation in China.

The St. Louis Post Dispatch says the clerks dismissed five cases and issued at least 18 arrest warrants while Judge Barbara Peebles was on vacation. They also continued more than 300 other cases to later dates.

The presiding circuit judge in St. Louis says the state commission on retirement, removal, and discipline is aware of the situation.

Peebles has been an associate circuit judge for 11 years.
