Governor Nixon wants more $100 million in loans from five state universities to help plug an anticipated $750 million hole in the state budget for the next fiscal year. About two-thirds of that money would come from University of Missouri reserve funds. The rest would come from Missouri State, Truman State, the University of Central Missouri, and Southeast Missouri State. Administration officials say the alternative is a 13 percent cut, across the board, in higher education budgets.
