The US Postal Service will hold a public meeting in Cape later this month to discuss its plan to move mail processing operations from its Cape distribution facility to Saint Louis.  The meeting begins at 7 PM on the 29th at the Osage Center.

Closing the Richard G Wilson Processing Center on the west side would save an estimated $3.8 million  and eliminate 71 positions.

Watkins says the initial study conducted in September supported consolidating mail processing operations in Cape to Saint Louis to increase efficiency.  If enacted, all union employees would be reassigned elsewhere.

A final decision is not expected until spring 2012.
