Wreath presented to the Governor’s Office

December 6, 2011 By Mike Lear

A Christmas wreath is on display at the Governor’s Office, having been presented by members of the Patriot Guard as part of Wreaths Across America.

Three veterans presented the wreath to the Governor's Office, including Wreaths Across America organizer Joe Smith (right).

Wreaths Across America aims to place those decorations at the graves of as many military veterans across the U.S. as possible. One of the state organizers is Joe Smith, who participated in the presentation at the Capital.

He says the goal is to bring attention to the sacrifice of veterans, and to “say thinks for the troops that are out there serving today; those that are getting to come home before they thought they were going to and those that having to stay this year.”

Wreath laying ceremonies will take place at cemeteries nationwide on Saturday. The goal is to start all of them at the same time as it begins at Arlington National Cemetery. In Missouri, that start time is 11:00 at 17 cemeteries.
