The biggest part of the deer season has ended on an ‘up” note… Conservation department deer biologist Jason Sumners says the deer kill numbers lagged behind last year’s figures for most of the season before reaching 190,089, about 1800 more than last year’s kill.

A new deer season started today. Hunters can shoot only antlerless deer–does and button bucks.

That means thousands of Missouri families will have venison tomorrow, not turkey.  Sumners says there are ways from keeping the meat from tasting too “gamey.”

Sumners say he prefers his venison thinly sliced, rolled in flour, salt and pepper, then fried.
