The Chiefs started fast. In fact they dominated, but still only led 3-0 after the first quarter. Then Tom Brady made adjustments and the Patriots came back to bury the Chiefs 34-3 on Monday night in Foxboro, MA.
Early, the Chiefs defense had New England confused, sacking Brady three times and holding the Pats to just 35 yards of offense through the first quarter and a half. Then, the wheels came off for the Chiefs as Brady hit tight end Rob Gronkowski for the first of two touchdowns, a 52 yard catch and run to put the Pats up 7-3. Brady brought New England down to the Chiefs three in the closing seconds, and settled for a field goal to go up 10-3.
Gronkowski finished with 92 yards and four catches. Brady, after that shaky start, picked apart the Chiefs for 234 yards, and got solid running from Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis who finished with 92 yards.
The third quarter belonged to New England, scoring on the opening drive as Brady found Gronkowski for 19 yards. After a three and out, the Patriots returned a punt 72 yards for a score, going up 24-3 with still over nine minutes to play in the third. The Chiefs put together a decent drive, getting into Pats territory, but Tyler Palko was picked off stalling the drive. New England answered with another field goal at the end of the quarter making it a 27-3 game.
Palko is not the answer at quarterback. His arm isn’t strong enough for the NFL. He finished 25 of 38 for 236 yards with no touchdowns and threw three interceptions. The Chiefs were outgained 380-334.
