The country’s biggest coal producer has increased its holdings in Australia’s largest coal producer to the point that it can force remaining stockholders to sell their shares. Peabody Energy Corporation of St. Louis has gained total control of Macarthur Coal Limited in a $9 billion hostile takeover.
Macarthur is the world’s biggest producer of pulverized injection coal which is extensively used in the steel industry.
