Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel suffered an injury to his throwing hand that will require surgery. Cassel got hurt and was removed late in the fourth quarter after getting sacked by Broncos linebacker Von Miller and defensive end Elvis Dumervil.

Cassel hasn’t been placed on injured reserve yet, but that could change as head coach Todd Haley called the injury situation “fluid” Monday afternoon.

Backup quarterback Tyler Palko will make his first NFL start Monday night in New England. Palko has appeared in four career games and attempted 13 total passes.
