The Interim House Committee that’s looking at the process that was used to select SynCare to handle medicare in Missouri says that process is flawed and should be reworked.

Health Department Director Margaret Donnelly defends the process by saying it is spelled out in the law how the process goes, and it’s done that way for a reason. she says just because it didn’t work this time, doesn’t mean it’s not a good system. The Committee disagreed.

But Committee member Todd Richardson says the way the Department scores companies for hire is not at all objective, because SynCare had a low bid cost, but not very much experience.

He says the process should probably be reformulated, because a Google search of SynCare found that it had failed to provide service in other states prior to its contract with Missouri.
