On Sunday when I heard SEC Commissioner Mike Slive say that the conference didn’t want to expand, but needed to stay ahead of the curve and not pass up fine institutions like Missouri and Texas A & M, I was concerned. How would SEC fans welcome a new school like Missouri. Would fans take the line of thought of why fix what isn’t broken? Would there be resentment towards Mizzou? Kevin McCreary, Sports Director for South Carolina Radio Network and SportsTalkSC.com, says quite the contrary.

McCreary admits there is not a lot of familiarity with Missouri. SEC fans tend to follow Texas or Oklahoma from the Big 12 and at this point are just kind of taking all of this realignment news and soaking it in. McCreary also brings up a good point. We’re in the middle of football season…at this point nothing else matters if it doesn’t involve the SEC.

For Mizzou fans who will be making their first trips next fall to some of these SEC destinations, McCreary says be prepared for good ole Southern Hospitality. He said 99.9% of the fans we’ll meet are gracious, friendly and enjoy the rivalries and do it the right way. “I think Missouri fans will be excited about the new rivalries.”
