Colleges and universities usually give honorary Ph.D.s to special people, but we almost never hear of an honorary bachelor’s degree. But the University of Central Missouri has given one to 101-year-old Martha Groner Fennewald from Westphalia.

Fennewald got her teaching certificate — but not a degree — from what was then central Missouri State Teachers College in 1929 before starting her long teaching career. The University has honored her for her contributions to education.
