Census ranks Missouri metro cities on businesses, employees

October 31, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

Missouri’s three biggest metro areas have been charted on a nationwide list that ranks cities according to how many businesses and employees it has.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the number one city in America is Lost Angeles with 333 thousand businesses, followed by Chicago with about 100 thousand fewer than that.

In Missouri, St. Louis was ranked highest — number 18th in the nation — Kansas City came in at number 26th among metro areas, and Springfield ranks 104th.

The Kansas City Business Journal has the story and a link to each state’s cities and where they come in on the list of businesses, employees per business and more.
