Albert Pujols hit three homers, drove in six runs and finished game three with five hits, all feats tying World Series records to help the Cardinals jump out to a 2-1 lead in the series after a 16-7 win Saturday night in Arlington, TX.

A ground out in the first inning left Pujols in an 0 for 7 slump against Texas, but by the end of the night, Pujols tied Babe Ruth (against the Cardinals in ’26 and ’28) and Reggie Jackson for the most home runs in a game and he set a Series mark with 14 total bases.

“I mean, with Babe and Reggie, that’s pretty good company right there,” Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said.

Pujols also tied a World Series record for hits in a game set by Paul Molitor in 1982, (against the Cardinals).

“It’s an honor to be named in the same category as those guys,” Pujols said.
