In response to reports that Libyan President Muammar Qadhafi has been killed, Congressman Russ Carnahan says the end of his regime was imminant.

He says the transition won’t be easy, but that the U-S will continue to work with allies to ensure a peaceful process for the Libyan people moving forward.

Carnahan authored a resolution last Spring on the important role women have been playing in democracy movements in Libya and across the Middle East and North Africa.

He says moving forward, women must have access to leadership roles — both as recognition for ongoing contributions and to achieve a successful transition.

Carnahan is the Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, is the founder and co-chair of the American Engagement Caucus, and will be serving as one of the Congressional Delegate to the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
