State Auditor backs new bank audit measure (AUDIO)

October 18, 2011 By Brian Hauswirth

The State Auditor says he’s trying to make sure banks in Missouri are operating fairly and according to procedure, but the Missouri Bankers Association is blocking his attempts. Auditor Tom Schweich has paired with a law maker to file a new law next session to support his ability to audit bank performance.

He says the Missouri Bankers Association wouldn’t be trying to block his attempts at audits if there wasn’t something it didn’t want him to see.

He says the association claims this could lead to possible violations of privacy of bank members. The law will be introduced for debate in January.
