Deaton given the OK to explore any and all conference affiliations (AUDIO)

October 4, 2011 By Bill Pollock

Following a four hour closed door meeting with the University of Missouri Board of Curators, Chancellor Brady Deaton announced that he is stepping down as president of the Big 12 so that he can focus on exploring any and all options as it pertains to Missouri’s conference affiliation.

Deaton did not come out and say 100% for sure that Missouri would leave the Big 12, but the fact that the curators did not come out with a full endorsement of the Big 12 tells me that Missouri is ready to move on.

MU Chancellor Brady Deaton comments on curator’s vote (6:00)

I think Deaton was very careful with his words to keep any potential egg off the face of the University should any possible alignment with the SEC fall through.

Deaton said there is no timetable as far as how long Missouri would take come to a decision, but Deaton also said there was no imposed deadline by the Big 12 either.

Now fans will have to wait and see if in fact the SEC will invite Missouri.
