The playoff hopes of the St. Louis Cardinals got a little dimmer last night as they lose the opener of a three game series against the Chicago Cubs, 5-1. The Redbirds would get 8 hits, but would score only one run.
That came in the 2nd inning off a bunt by Chris Carpenter that scored Skip Schumaker.
Kyle Lohse will get the call this afternoon for the Cardinals. The Cubs will counter with Rodrigo Lopez.

The Major League Baseball playoff picture is starting to come into view as three more division titles were won last night.
In Milwaukee, the Brewers beat the Florida Marlins to clinch the National League Central. Out west, the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the San Francisco Giants to win the National League West.
And for the second straight season, the Texas Rangers claimed the American League West crown by beating the Seattle Mariners.
