The Cardinals took a 6-2 lead into the top of the ninth, but allowed six runs on four walks, three hits and two errors as the New York Mets rallied for an 8-6. With Atlanta idle, the Cardinals drop to two games behind in the wild card standings with six games to play.

The Cardinals built a 6-1 lead behind a solid pitching performance from Jake Westbrook who gave up one run on three hits while walking four. Allen Craig hit a two run homer in the first and Yadier Molina went 2 for 5 with two RBI.

Jason Motte started the ninth and gave up a lead off walk. He then walked three more around an out after a Rafael Furcal error put runners on first and second with nobody out. Mark Rzepcynski came in allowed a single just over the head of second basemen Ryan Theriot to make it a 6-4 game. Fernando Salas then gave up a two run double and a two run single before getting out of the inning.
