Gig.U looks for private sector feedback (AUDIO)

September 20, 2011 By Brian Hauswirth

Gig.U, a project to build an ultra-fast internet network in Columbia is taking the next step to making the project a reality.

Gig.U is seeking input from local businesses in Columbia on what kind of support they would need to be a part of the new high-speed network. John Galispy is the executive director of MORENET, a group that runs the networks for schools and libraries across the state. He says the project could help the local economy.

He says this opportunity is not unlike the opportunity for a major highway to be built near town.

He says it’s too soon to tell how much the project will cost or what it will look like at the end, but the more private sector businesses give feedback, the clearer the picture will be.

(AUDIO) Allison Blood reports on Gig.U Mp3 1:01
