Mike Danton was a member of the St. Louis Blues in 2004 when he was arrested and eventually convicted in a conspirarcy to commit murder plot. During his years in prison, he became a certified first aid responder. That training came in handy during a hockey game in Sweden.

Danton was playing his first hockey game with Swedish third-division club Ore since serving a five year prison term. His teammate Marcus Bengtsson hit his head on the ice after a hard hit and started convulsing.

Danton used his training and waited for Bengtsson’s jaw to unclench and then shoved his hand into his teammate’s mouth to stop him from choking on his own tongue. Bengtsson was diagnosed with a concussion and released a statement that said, “I can’t describe how thankful I am to Mike and all the others who helped me, it could have been a lot worse.”
