Joplin fugitive runs, but police dog runs faster

September 19, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

A police dog has helped catch a fugitive in Joplin, about ten days after the man fled from the Jasper County courthouse during a hearing.

The police department says one of its officers spotted Jeff Zimmerman at a truck stop … and when Zimmerman took off, the dog caught him.

Zimmerman fled from the Joplin courts building after a hearing in which he was ordered to be sent to Oklahoma to face drug, forger, and vehicle theft charges. He also faces forgery and stealing charges in Jasper County.
