Joplin’s death toll from the May 22nd tornado continues to rise nearly four months after the EF-5 twister destroyed several homes and lives.

Jasper County Coroner Rob Chappel says the latest victims were suffering from long term serious injuries caused by the storm.

Chappel says 91-year-old Dorothy Johnston and 68-year-old Ronnie Holloway suffered serious long-term injuries that led to deaths. Johnston was at the Meadow Care Center in Joplin on May 22nd and suffered brain trauma that led to her death. Holloway was at his home on South Patterson that day when a wall fell on him and his significant other.

Jasper County Coroner Rob Chappel says that brings the total to 162. He says the coroner’s office is studying another death that might be attributed to the tornado.
