Cardinals lose, Braves fall in extra

September 13, 2011 By Bill Pollock

Pedro Ciriaco hit a tiebreaking double past Albert Pujols into right field leading a three run rally in the eighth as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cardinals 6-5, snapping the Cardinals’ five game winning streak.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the first on a sac fly from Albert Pujols, the Cardinals battled all night with the Pirates and took a 4-3 lead in the sixth on Pujols’ NL leading 35th homer. Pujols drove in three runs.

The Cards remain 4.5 behind Atlanta who lost again, this time in 12 innings to Florida. The Cards are 6.5 behind Milwaukee who had the night off.
