At about 3:30 this morning Columbia Fire Department fire fighters responded to a fire in Ellis Library at the University of Missouri. When the crew arrived, the fire was already being controlled by automatic sprinklers.
Fire fighters extinguished the fire; however, officials are reporting moderate smoke and water damage to Ellis Library and the State Historical Society. No injuries were reported, and fire investigators and MU Police Department officers are investigating the cause of the fire. No damage estimates are available at this time.
Due to the smoke and water damage, Ellis Library will remain closed on Saturday, Sept. 10.
