St. Louis Representative Jamilla Nasheed wants to return control of the city’s police force back to the city. Her special session version of the bill starts in her committee at 11 on Thursday, and she expects it to be debated on the floor later in the day. She filed a bill during regular session that she says got “held hostage” while other issues were being debated. Nasheed says she thinks the special session is the perfect time to discuss the bill.

Nasheed says unlike during regular session, the Police are on board with the bill this time. Though the Senate started the session with a filibuster, Nasheed is optimistic about how quickly the house will move.

The St. Louis police force hasn’t been controlled by the city since the civil war.
