Tired of his inconsistent play, Jacksonville head coach Jack Del Rio cut quarterback David Garrard who was projected to be the starter. However, that did not hand the starting job to former Mizzou quarterback Blaine Gabbert, but it certainly means we can see him playing in the NFL sooner than later.

The Jags announced that Luke McCown who was their best quarterback in the preseason will be the starter. Playing mostly with and against second and third teamers, McCown completed 12 of 18 passes for 133 yards, with two touchdowns, no interceptions and no sacks.

Gabbert dropped to third on the depth chart last week, but it was still a surprise that McCown was ready to compete for a starting job. Depending on how the early part of the season goes for McCown will determine how quickly Gabbert is on the field this season.
