One of the main components of the Made in Missouri jobs package to be debated during special session beginning today offers incentives to lure data centers to the state. The Missouri Chamber supports the package, and its Vice President of Government Affairs worked with Senate and House leadership in creating the data center language.

Tracy King says if Missouri could capture just 5 percent of the nation’s data center industry, it would mean 2.8 billion dollars of investment in equipment and construction. The Chamber also believes construction of the industry in Missouri would provide over 4000 construction jobs during a 10 year period.

The Made in Missouri language on data centers includes includes sales tax exemptions on machinery, equipment and computers for the initial data buildup, and on utilities and telecomm services to be used in a data center. It also allows local governments to offer additional property tax incentives to a potentially incoming facility.
