Missouri’s veteran’s homes are running out of money, but the veteran’s commission says its working hard to find a new funding source so no homes will close.
Missouri Veterans Commission Director Larry Kay says there is a possibility that the commission will run out of money in the next few years, as its two main funds are drying up. He says if there’s not a new source of funding secured, the commission will be out of money by mid 2013.
But he says there’s no reason to believe the commission will not find a new funding source, and also no reason to believe any homes will close because of this. Kay says lawmakers have pledged their support in finding a solution.
Kay says there are three main sources for new funding: general revenue from the government, a dedicated funding source, like a lottery ticket, or charging veterans more to live at the homes. He says it will likely be a mix of all three.
