When a NFL team makes a quarterback a top 10 pick and pays a guaranteed $12 million for the next four years, you can bet it is going to be sooner than later.

When Blaine Gabbert last talked to the media, he mentioned how the rookies on that Jaguars team were going to be expected to make contributions early for that team. Now he concedes that David Garrard is the starting quarterback, but with a young team and not a lot of expectations, it will only be a matter of time before they find some way to get Gabbert involved.

The former Mizzou star and St. Louisan will see significant playing time tonight when the Jags host the Rams. Gabbert told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, “It’s going to be fun. I grew up watching the Rams, a big Rams fan,” Gabbert said. “I’m looking forward to playing those guys. My family and a couple of friends will be down for that one.”
