Kansas jury convicts former Columbia city official of murdering his kids, wife, her grandmother

August 26, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

A jury in Kansas has convicted the former head of the Columbia City Utility Department of murdering his estranged wife, their two daughters, and his wife’s grandmother.  The lawyer for James Kraig Kahler had argued Kahler’s mental health had declined after his wife began a lesbian affair and filed for divorce. Witnesses say Kahler’s obsession with saving his marriage led to his firing as Columbia’s City Utilities Director.

Jurors will next decide what punishment to recommend.
